ive been playing a game called “dead by daylight” with my friend of 2 years recently. if you dont know the game, its an asymmetrical horror game where 4 survivors try to power up 5 generators and get out of the exit while being chased by 1 killer whose goal is to kill them all. the main thing about this game is that it has around 280 perks that you can mismatch to use everytime. there being 280, of course there are going to be meta perks. im not against running meta perks but i just dont find the game fun running the same meta perks every single time, because i like to have fun over winning games. whenever my situational perks come in handy in severely niche situations, its so fun for me. however, when i play with my friend, he doesnt think so. he thinks its a waste for me to run situational perks when i could run meta perks that can help in almost any situation, (for people who know the game, sprint burst, dead hard, decisive strike, etc) he says i dont “help enough” because im running situational perks. he prioritizes winning the game, while i prioritize having fun. i try to tell him that i dont really like running meta perks, but he doesnt really listen, and nags me to run them anyway.ย it doesnt exactly stress me out too much, and playing with him is fun, its just that when im running the same meta perks over and over again, the gameplay gets repetitive. what should i do? should i just stop playing with him?

Honestly bro, this is just a playstyle clash.
Youโre playing for fun, trying different perks and enjoying those random clutch moments. Heโs playing to win and wants everything optimized. Neither of you are wrong โ you just want different things from the game.
But yeah, if you keep forcing yourself to run meta every game, you gonna get bored fast. Thatโs normal.
What Iโd say is just be straight with him once โ like โI donโt enjoy running meta every game, I wanna have fun too.โ Not in a defensive way, just chill about it.
If heโs a good friend, heโll adjust a bit.
You can even do a mix โ some matches serious (his way), some matches fun builds (your way). That usually fix this kind of thing.
But if he keep nagging you every game and not really listening, then donโt stop being friends โ just maybe donโt play this game with him that much. Play solo or with others when you wanna try different stuff.
At the end of the day, itโs a gameโฆ if it start feeling like a job, somethingโs not right.
