21st June was chosen as International Yoga Day because it is the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolizing energy, balance, and well-being. In yogic tradition, this day is also considered significant because it marks the time when Adi Yogi (Lord Shiva) is believed to have started sharing the knowledge of yoga with his disciples. Due to its spiritual and natural importance, the United Nations declared 21st June as the International Day of Yoga in 2014.
