Time-In-Force (TIF) determines how long an order remains active before it is executed or canceled. Flipster supports three common TIFs:
- Good Till Cancel (GTC):
- Description: Remains active until fully executed or manually canceled.
- Use Case: Commonly seen in maker limit orders, where the order is submitted to increase the liquidity of the order book.
- Immediate Or Cancel (IOC):
- Description: Requires immediate execution at the limit price or better. If not fully executed immediately, the remaining portion is canceled.
- Use Case: Commonly seen in market orders or taker limit orders, where the order is submitted to take liquidity from the order book.
- Fill-Or-Kill (FOK):
- Description: Designed to execute in full immediately upon placement. If not filled for the entire quantity, it is canceled entirely.
- Use Case: Commonly seen in market orders or taker limit orders, where the order is submitted to take liquidity from the order book.
Note: In Flipster, market orders and trigger orders (in the form of conditional market orders) use Fill-Or-Kill. It is essential for users to note that orders (including Take Profit and Stop Loss orders) may fail to execute entirely during times of market volatility if the maximum slippage is breached.
