The hearing ability of the youth is decreasing due to continuous talking on mobile phones with one ear, using earphones or earbuds, and exposure to loud sounds. This leads to a significant number of young people experiencing hearing loss.

Approximately 100 youths visit the OPD of KGMU and Lohia Institute daily with low hearing problems.

Common environments such as parties or homes often have noise levels exceeding 120 decibels, especially from sources like TVs and DJs.

Doctors are advising affected youth to use hearing aids along with prescribed medicines to manage their hearing loss.

Ignoring hearing loss for two to four years can lead to more severe deafness. This has been observed in youth visiting the Neuro-Otology Department at PGI.
