In 1861, Alabama seceded from the United States to become part of the Confederate States of America, with Montgomery acting as its first capital. Alabama rejoined the Union in 1868.
High-profile events such as the Selma to Montgomery marches made Alabama a major focal point of the civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s.
The previous record was held by a dinosaur named Stan, which was auctioned for about Rs 2.65 billion in 2020.
Apex is the largest and most complete Stegosaurus dinosaur skeleton ever found, with a total of 254 fossil bone elements, and it is 30 percent larger than other Stegosaurus skeletons.
The dinosaur skeleton sold for a record Rs 3.72 billion (44.6 million).
The auction took place at Sotheby’s auction house in New York on Wednesday.
The skeleton of the largest Stegosaurus dinosaur, nicknamed Apex, was auctioned for 4 billion.
Cassandra Hatton, Head of Sotheby’s Auction Department, stated that with this price, Apex became the world’s most valuable fossil ever sold.
Apex is noted to have no signs of injury on its body from fights, and it is one of the longest living dinosaurs among many. It is currently on public display in London.
